Ot Azey provides a Yiddish respite

Ot Azey brought a Yiddishe shmeykhel (smile – for those who didn’t attend) to many faces during the 3-day Yiddish course.

‘Dean’ Clara Gersholowitz was in charge of the Yiddish advanced class and thrilled with a selection of readings from the Forwards in Yiddish, with translations and commentary.  The intermediate group were taken through their paces by Rochelle Winer from Durban, assisted by our own Sybil CastleTamar Olswang from Johannesburg handled the ‘glatt beginners’ – who by day 3 where singing 2 Yiddish songs!

Classes got together for sing-alongs arranged by Fay SingerBarry Braun accompanied by Harvey Citrine did a musical interlude for Ot Azey-niks on Tuesday.

We’ll give you an outline of the course and some of the guest speakers and topics covered during Ot Azey – a Yiddishe mikvah – a complete immersion in the joys of Yiddish!
