How inspiring and surprising to come to work one day, two weeks ago, and to behold in front of our new offices the most beautiful water-featured garden.
Unbeknown to the staff at JCC House, an anonymous donor had had the garden installed as a memorial and in memory of the late Joel Miller who had lived at our new offices before he passed away.
The garden is a pleasure to view and we are so grateful to be cared for in this way.
When philanthropists talk about the spiritual aspects of giving anonymously, they often cite the 12th-century Jewish wise man Maimonides, who ranked anonymous giving as the second-highest level of charity. Julie Salamon explored that philosophy in her 2003 book,Rambam’s Ladder: A Meditation on Generosity and Why It Is Necessary to Give ,” Salamon once said. “They want to set the balance straight and don’t want a lot of credit for it.”
A beautiful environment impacts positively on the people who work in it. We at Jewish welfare, JCC House, want to thank the donor for this installation that has made our working lives more in tune with nature and the spiritual sounds of water flowing.
